On the third Thursday of October each year, credit unions around the world commemorate International Credit Union Day®, a global celebration organized by World Council of Credit Unions, the global trade association and development platform for credit unions and other financial cooperatives.
Congressman Dave Min, Senator Tom Umberg and Assemblymember Tri Ta attended the celebration, along with representatives from the offices of Congressmen Derek Tran and Lou Correa; Sens. Steven Choi and Tony Strickland; and Assemblymembers Phillip Chen, Avelino Valencia, Diane Dixon and Cottie Petrie-Norris. Themed “Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World,” the 78th annual International Credit Union Day highlights the trust, stability and people-first approach at the heart of credit unions and other financial cooperatives.
Credit unions exist to help people improve their financial lives, and that mission has guided the movement for generations,” said Bill Cheney, chief executive officer, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. "As Members face rising costs and economic uncertainty, we have an important responsibility to provide the guidance, support and financial solutions that help them move forward with confidence.”
Globally, nearly 62,000 credit unions and financial cooperatives serve nearly 420 million members across 93 countries and manage approximately $3.98 trillion in assets.
