Help Reduce Your Taxes While You Work to Build a Secure Retirement

Offered by SchoolsFirst Plan Administration, LLC

The 403(b) is a tax-sheltered account developed by the IRS to encourage employees of educational institutions, and certain non-profit organizations, to save pre-tax dollars for retirement. A 403(b) plan can provide a healthy supplement to your pension plan.

As a Third-Party Administrator (TPA), we offer a variety of investment options, including SchoolsFirst/Nationwide Retirement Builder Plan, as well as a wealth of other state-approved investment provider options. Retirement Builder Plan is available to school employees in districts where SchoolsFirst Plan Administration, LLC serves as Third-Party Administrator.

Regardless of the investment provider you choose, a 403(b) works much like a traditional IRA:

  • Contributions (up to certain limits) are pre-tax, reducing your current federal and state income taxes
  • Earnings on your investment build up tax deferred, giving you the opportunity for a much larger nest egg than a similar taxable investment
  • You can take distributions without penalty after age 59 ½, but must start distributions at age 70 ½. These distributions are taxable at current tax rates as ordinary income
  • You can transfer your 403(b) plan to another eligible provider without IRS penalty
  • You can take loans against your 403(b) while still employed. Loan repayment terms and interest rates are determined by your investment provider

403(b) plans can be a smart way to save for retirement.
