Tax deferred build up of earnings with the potential for tax-free withdrawals
Offered by SchoolsFirst Plan Administration, LLC

The Roth 403(b) is a tax-sheltered account developed by the IRS to encourage employees of educational institutions, and certain non-profit organizations, to save post-tax dollars for retirement. A Roth 403(b) plan can provide a healthy supplement to your pension plan.

As a Third-Party Administrator (TPA), we offer a variety of investment options, including SchoolsFirst/Nationwide Retirement Builder Plan, as well as a wealth of other state-approved investment provider options. Retirement Builder Plan is available to school employees in districts where SchoolsFirst Plan Administration, LLC serves as Third-Party Administrator.

Regardless of the investment provider you choose, Roth 403(b)s work much like Roth IRAs:

  • Instead of pre-tax contributions, you contribute after-tax dollars up to certain limits
  • Contributions are made through payroll deductions (“salary reduction agreement”) with your employer, and can be as little as $50 per month
  • Earnings on your investment build up tax free, giving you a much larger nest egg than a similar taxable investment
  • Qualified distributions are tax free; investment experts believe a Roth 403(b) may give you a higher after-tax nest egg than traditional 403(b)s
  • You can take distributions without penalty upon severance of employment or after age 59 ½ if the account has been open at least five years
  • You can transfer your Roth 403(b) plan to another eligible provider without IRS penalty
  • You can take loans against your Roth 403(b) while still employed. Loan repayment terms and interest rates are determined by your investment provider

Roth 403(b) plans help save taxes in the future while giving you smart investment options today.
