We’ve Changed Our Name to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union

Our new name reflects our longstanding commitment to school employees

Your credit union has an important announcement. On April 14, we begin transitioning to our new name—SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. This new name will honor the teachers and entire educational community we have proudly served since 1934.

To be clear, we have not been sold or merged. Our staff and management are not changing. Our products and services remain the same. This is a change in name only.

Today we serve Members in 10 Southern California counties, including Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside. Those Members include teachers, faculty, school aides, school administrators, school janitors and other staff members and their families. After several years of research and input, we developed a name that is more representative of our Membership, both geographically and inclusive of all school employees.

Q: How does this change benefit you?
A: More than a name, SchoolsFirst FCU represents a new era of opportunity for our Membership. With credit unions, the entire Membership benefits when more people join. More Members mean we are able to provide better rates and lower fees. With our new name, more school employees and their families will feel welcome and join. Ultimately, everyone will benefit.

Q: Why SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union?
A: There are several reasons for selecting SchoolsFirst FCU. The name does not limit us geographically, which is very important as your credit union pursues a consistent strategy of managed, careful growth. Additionally, we know our educator-Members prefer a name that is not overly contrived and consists of "real words.” “Schools” defines us clearly and accurately, and it best reflects what we do—we put school employees and their families first!

Q: Will the name change impact my Membership status or credit union services?
A: No, the name change will have no impact on your Membership status, accounts, loans or investments. You can continue to use your SchoolsFirst FCU ATM card, checks, and debit or credit cards. Upon renewal, new designs will be sent to you.

Q: I liked the name OCTFCU. Is it going away?
A: We recognize that many of our Members grew up with the name OCTFCU, so the name is not going away. We want to recognize our legacy. Our new tagline states, “Serving School Employees as OCTFCU Since 1934.” You’ll also see the name OCTFCU remain in many of our branches and our materials. And, although our Web site address is changing to www.SchoolsFirstfcu.org on April 14, you can still access us at www.octfcu.org.
