Legislative Advocacy

Credit Unions are different from other financial institutions in many ways. We are not-for-profit, owned by our Members, and we serve a defined field of Membership. While all financial institutions have certain commonalities and are bound by many of the same laws and regulations, each type of institution has some regulatory differences. Therefore, it is important that our lawmakers in Washington, DC and Sacramento, understand the credit union difference and hear directly from credit union Members who will be affected by the laws they make.

SchoolsFirst FCU's new Legislative Advocacy webpage allows us to keep you informed of governmental developments as they happen. This site will also enable you to communicate quickly and easily with state and federal legislators on issues important to you as a credit union Member.

Grassroots outreach efforts have the greatest impact on legislators and will help us with our voice in both Washington, DC and Sacramento.

I went to Washington, DC with SchoolsFirst FCU. It was a great experience meeting with my congresswoman and telling her about the credit union difference.
